The focal point of this bracelet is the 25x13mm piece of preban elephant ivory. I etched it with a sperm whale, historically known as the common cachalot, derived from an archaic French word for "tooth". The teeth differ considerably between the species and not all species are believed to use their teeth for feeding. For instance, the Sperm Whale likely uses its teeth for aggression and showmanship.

The scrimshaw is inked with black india ink and sealed with 2 coats of archival wax to protect the intricate design and the beauty of the ivory. It is water resistant, but not waterproof. Please don't expose it to running water.

The finished piece of ivory is side drilled and attached to a large curb chain silver plated charm bracelet with a lobster claw clasp. It is 8" long but can be sized smaller or larger. Please specify the length you wish in the notes to seller when you purchase and I will accommodate your special order size.
