This Red, White, and Blue Print Princess Grace Briefcase was inspired by the wedding of Princess Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier of Monaco III. [see more about this fairy tale wedding below ] It is one of the many fashion bags inspired by the Princess and her popularity in the 50's and 60's. Based on my research I can tell you that this briefcase came in many different colors including red, multi color stripe [green, purple, yellow, pink, orange & blue] paisley print tapestry, and other tapestry designs.

My assumption is that this briefcase design was influenced by the 'Mod and Rocker' styles that infiltrated the globe in the early to mid 1960's as part of what is now referred to as the "British Invasion" that brought us the Beatles, the Stones, the Who and many other British bands.

This is a unique and rare Red, White and Blue print Princess Grace locking briefcase. It has a red heart fob which holds the 2 original keys to the lock. The heart shaped key fob has "The Princess Grace" engraved upon it. There are brass tone footed hinges. It has a vinyl covered hard case and handle. The bag is very clean inside and out. The interior is blue with a large sleeve compartment and 2 smaller attached pockets, one pocket has a zipper closures and the others are slip pockets.

Length: 17 inches
Height: 12 inches
Width: 3 inches

This briefcase falls between very good and excellent condition. There are no rips, tears or holes. It is structurally sound and the locks, latches, zipper and hardware all work well. However, like most bags in their 50's this bag has a few scratches but very few.

About Princess Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly's wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1956 was a fairy tale romance come true for many young people in the 1950's. The wedding was estimated to have been watched by over 30 million viewers on live television, and was described by biographer Robert Lacey as "the first modern event to generate media overkill." Although the bride and groom have both passed, in April of 2016, Monaco celebrated the 60th anniversary of their wedding and their son, Prince Albert, had this to say about their union:

"It was such an incredible affair, and it's left such a mark on people," "For us…it was our parents getting married. But what it's meant for Monaco, for people around the world, and, how their story continues to fascinate people, that's something unimaginable. Those who attended who are still with us still talk about it." [ http://www.newmyroyals.com/2016/04/new-details-grace-kellys-wedding-to.html ]

There have been quite a few exhibitions held celebrating Princess Kelly's influence on fashion. from the Philadelphia Museum of Art in a 2006 50th wedding anniversary exhibition to an event celebrating her wardrobe at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in 2010 to a more recent V&A exhibition in Australia at the Bendigo Art Gallery in 2012.

There is even a Hermes Bag named 'The Kelly Bag' in honor of the Hermes Bag she carried with her in the 1950"s [ http://usa.hermes.com/kelly/us ] If you are looking for that bag time to leave. Different models retail from $5,000.00 to $60,950.00 which pretty much exceeds my inventory budget on many levels.
