Description

Given the Victorian fascination with their Empire, the concept of eternal life, and myth immemorial, the fondness for Egyptian imagery is hardly surprising ... but its manifestations are nevertheless fascinating. This gorgeous faience scarab ring is a superb example of the ways in which the Victorians incorporated ancient Egyptian symbolism into the 19th century lexicon.

Symbolizing luck and health, these powerful stylized images of beetles were associated with the God of the sun, Ra. This artifact was quite likely transported from an archeological site in Egypt, but set upon arrival. Though not hallmarked, it tests as 15ct rose gold, holding an intricately engraved faience scarab beetle. It can be worn as a ring (it wears as a size 6/7, sizing is not recommended), or a reversible pendant. The shoulders are carved in the shape of lotus pillars, topped by the heads of pharaohs in profile, crowned with sacred serpents - the artisan who crafted this clearly went all out to evoke the feel of an ancient Egyptian artifact. Highly collectible, utterly fascinating!

As always, if you have any questions or desire additional pictures, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
I accept PayPal, and am always happy to work with a customer on a layaway plan. My general policy is to ask for a nonrefundable deposit of 1/3, with the remaining 2/3rds to be paid off within the next 30 days, but if you want to tailor something specific to your needs, just say the word! I ask that customers adhere to whatever agreement we reach: if a customer misses a payment and does not contact me within 7 days, I am afraid I will have to relist the item.

Returns & exchanges

I accept returns for ready-made items that are significantly not as described, providing a full refund minus the cost of return shipping + insurance. I ask that buyers make their decision within 7 days of receipt, and that returns be undamaged and unaltered (for example, a buyer should not have a ring sized if they're uncertain as to whether they'll be wanting to keep it). Custom orders are non-refundable.

Shipping policies

Ready-made items are shipped within 1 to 3 business days. My default method of shipping is USPS first class, with full insurance, but if you would prefer a different method, please do let me know and I'll be happy to work out an upgrade with you.
