"Hatched Egg"

4" (100 mm) high, and 3 1/2" (88 mm) diameter at the belly.

Honey Locust is an Eastern North American tree found between the Upper Midwest and Louisiana, with dense, hard, durable wood and beautifully colored grain ranging from the yellow sapwood to orange, red, and brown of the heartwood.

I first turned this piece on the lathe to form the basic shape, then shaped it by hand to form the sculpted rim.

The vessel's shape was inspired by the egg, and I imagine it to once have contained an alien creature which hatched and is now roaming or flying around the countryside looking for a mate.

Signed and dated, and finished with hand-rubbed polyurethane varnish to a medium gloss.

50% of the total price will be donated to World Vision, Emergency Aid for Japan Quake and Tsunami Relief. Shipping is free for any location in the continental U. S.
