This Butterflies and Lace is a fine art etching in which I created a contemporary dream like landscape with lots of fluttering butterflies and lace. This would be a perfect gift for any butterfly enthusiast in your life and I think it would be a peace evoking work of art for any room in your home, but especially in a bedroom.

I have always had a love of butterflies, brilliantly colored, so perfectly created, and let us not forget BEAUTIFUL ! I am amazed and spell bound how many different varieties, shapes, sizes and combinations of colors there are in our world today.

In this piece I wanted to create kind of a dream like quality landscape using lace and of course, butterflies. Some of the butterflies have great detail and yet the smaller ones I leave to your imagination. This etching would be a perfect addition to any wall in your home but I think it would be especially perfect in your bedroom where you can drift of to sleep in the calm, quiet atmosphere created from the scene. Sweet dreams :)

This is an original etching where I experimented with using soft ground and various materials including lace and other material to create patterns that were etched into the plate with acid. I only have this one artist proof printed in black of the entire plate, and I never printed an edition so this is one of a kind. I have a couple of small cameos I created from one of the big prints that are shown in a separate listing.

"Butterflies and Lace" image size is 11 3/4 x 11 3/4.
*This print is sold un-matted and unframed on acid free foam board with a clear acid free acetate covering.

What is an etching?

It all begins with a thin copper plate that I spent months drawing and etching the image into the plate with acid, lovingly modelling, re-drawing, re-etching, and perfecting the image on the plate until it created the print you now see. Each individual print was created by inking the copper plate, wiping it with tarlaton, placing a piece of damp acid free and buffered fine art paper on top of the plate which is then hand cranked through my etching press. The press helps transfer the inked image from the plate to the paper. The plate is then re-inked and printed for each of prints in the edition.

Artist Biography updated Oct 16, 2018

I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a BFA in graphic design in 1985. My primary areas of concentration in college, and in the years to follow, have been Drawing and Printmaking, although I also enjoy working in Pastel and Oil Painting. Over the years I have participated in many outdoor art shows, exhibited my work in local galleries and had my work accepted, exhibited, and awarded in various National Shows across the United States.

One of my pastels, “Late Summer afternoon on the LeTort” was printed in a Fly Fishing Book published by Stackpole Books called “Selectivity”, written by a well-known author and fly fishing guide. I was also blessed to have a large color etching displayed in the Augusta National Club House, accepted and sold at the Master’s Golf Tournament from 1992-94. I was very fortunate my “Augusta National, View from Magnolia Lane” color etching was purchased by many patrons from Miami to California, Europe to South Africa as well as from the Far East. Truly humbled and honored, some of my patrons were past Master’s champions.

I enjoyed the opportunity to teach Youth and Adult, Drawing and Printmaking classes at the Danville Community Art Center in KY from 2011 to 2015 until my husband and I moved back to Ohio. We currently reside in Beavercreek, OH where I work full time in my home studio and am excited as I begin putting down roots in the Art community in and around the Dayton area.
