Sewing Box Hexagonal Hand Made - Fabric Covered Cartonnage - Vintage Sewing Machines
This is a completely handmade box, hand cut from sturdy cardstock and covered in top quality cotton fabric featuring a selection of vintage and antique sewing machines and lined with a coordinating pink fabric. Ideal for a sewing box or to keep your treasured items in.
The craft of cartonnage originated in France and involves constructing items from card and covering with decorative paper or beautiful fabric. This can range from simple stationery items such as a book cover or pen holder to very intricate boxes. It is a very popular craft in France and some other northern european countries although less well known in the U.K. and United States.
It has a padded interior with little pockets to put things in and some pretty ribbon to tuck things behind. The sides are supported by little gusset sections which allow the box to fall open halfway like a flower.
This would be a luxurious, one of a kind gift for giving to a special person or for spoiling yourself. I never make the same box twice as, because they take so long to make, I need to be newly inspired each time although I have used this combination of fabric recently albeit in a different colour scheme.
Dimensions 8" diameter x 4.25" deep (21cm x 11cm)
