About Brizel's Silk Tapestry Baskets...

I've been making these unique precious silk baskets with embellished lids since 2005… the year i discovered silk sari yarn at an eco-friendly festival. I stood there mesmerized by their bright colors fully appreciating the importance of their upcycled nature: reclaimed silk sari loom warps transformed into gorgeous art yarn. I left with two skeins and for the first time in 30 years dug up my childhood crochet needle & created my first silk tapestry.

In order to create woven rug-like thicknesses for my silk tapestry work, each thick silk yarn loop is pulled tightly one at a time. Despite its beauty, in the early days the yarn was very unforgiving as it was lumpy & unevenly spun. Initially, I worked with only one strand of yarn but as the product became popular fair trade spinning co-operatives were formed in India and Nepal to meet the market demand and the yarns became more diverse in color as well as thinner in nature. I began combining two, and sometimes even three, different strands of silk sari yarns. Banana fibers became available in a similarly silk-like but vegan yarn and I started to incorporate that, as well as thinner cotton or hemp yarns, into my work. Combining different yarns together has created a newfound depth in color that has allowed my tapestry work to express itself in a more desired impressionistic style. My tapestry work is not only inspired by the natural world but it is firmly rooted by my love of French Impressionism. With a palette of Silk Sari threads from and an awesome selection of vintage or Czech glass sewing buttons, Brizel's silk tapestry work has kept evolving.

How to ENJOY & CARE for a Silk Tapestry Basket...

Brizel's hand crafted baskets are made from tightly crocheted yarns. Depending on yarn content, their combinations and size - some baskets are more softly rigid than others. Each has a lid which fits over its basket base- some fit more loosely and others need to be carefully 'screwed' on or off. Should your basket accidentally get 'out of shape', including its ability to sit upright... reshape gently by gently tugging or squishing as appropriate. Over time, should dust settle on its surface... remove by puffing it off. Please be sure fingers are clean before handling. Brizel's silk tapestry baskets are happiest when they can hold something special & sit peacefully in a undisturbed nook.

I loved this basket the second I saw it! I very much appreciate hand made items in my home and for personal use and this piece is obviously created with a lot of love and care. It's even prettier in person, and it makes me smile every time I look at it! Communications from this shop are warm and friendly, and my basket arrived quickly and well packed. Highly recommend this artist!

Payments

Secure options
  • Accepts Etsy Gift Cards and Etsy Credits
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
There are currently two ways to process your payments- 1- through Paypal or 2- through Etsy's Payments system. If you wish to make your payment via mail, I am happy to accept a money order from the post office. Please Contact Me so that I may set up that third payment option for you.

The speediest way to check out is with items from my shop only in your cart then pay for them through Paypal. You do not need a Paypal account in order to pay through Paypal's secure system... you can select that method and check out *as their guest* paying with your credit card.

Etsy's Payments system is more diverse because it has more options but payments may take longer to process with their third party processor. If you choose to check out with multiple shops at the same time... or you select another form of payment than Paypal - your payment will go thru via Etsy Payments and may take up to 48hrs to process. More often than not though it goes through right away.

I will be in touch once your payment has cleared to give you a ship out date which will be approx. 1-2 business days after the payment has processed.

PS... If your shipping address is within California... tax will automatically be added to your invoice.
