Description

A lovely set of unique knitting and crochet stitch markers/progress keepers. Dive into the deep blue ocean, swim with dolphins while fish tickle your toes and whales waive their tails at you! These are beautiful markers to work with. This fabulous set of tools is an ideal gift for a knitter or crocheter (or to keep for yourself!).

This listing is for a set of five knitting stitch markers; each marker is different:

A whale-tail charm, filigree'd with Celtic knots, is decorated with dark blue glass pearls and silver coloured beads, representing the colour of the sea and the crests of the waves.
The fish charm swims beneath a stack of mother of pearl chips.
A Tibetan silver dolphin charm leaps beneath a rich blue banded agate bead.
The small stack of amazonite chips, large and small, is the colour of a beautiful calm Caribbean sea.
A stack of blue/brown Tiger's Eye chips is a richly dark counterpoint to the calm blue of the amazonite.

For the knitting markers:
You will receive five knitting stitch markers as shown and described above; the charms are made from zinc alloy or Tibetan silver (as stated) and are free of nickel, cadmium and lead; the rings are made from silver-plated copper wire. Each ring is soldered closed so that the ring will not snag on your knitting whilst you are using it. The solder used is low temperature lead free silver solder.

The large ring measures 8mm across, and is suitable for use on knitting needles up to 6mm (US size 10, UK Imperial size 4). As a lace knitter myself, I have found this size to be the most comfortable to use, and the charms provide a little weight and interest to the knitting process.

Many commercially produced stitch markers use jump rings made from wire that is too thin and quickly becomes misshapen; I make my stitch markers from 1mm wire that maintains its shape in use. Many stitch markers are not soldered closed, so that the yarn is easily snagged; my stitch markers are soldered so that there is no gap in the ring to snag your yarn.

For the crochet markers:
You will receive the five stitch markers as shown and described above; all charms are zinc alloy or Tibetan silver (as stated) and are free of nickel, cadmium and lead; the jump rings are made from silver-plated copper wire soldered closed with lead-free low temperature silver solder. The lobster clasp is silver plated copper.

A travelling/locking/crochet stitch marker is used in knitting patterns where the marker needs to be moved even though the knitter has not reached the marker in order to be able to slip it. They can also be used to clip to the knitted fabric to indicate, for instance, the right side of the garter-stitch fabric or a specific row, and they are invaluable in crochet for marking the beginning of a round.

The lobster clasp is approximately 5mm in diameter and has an opening size of 2.5mm; it is therefore only suitable for use as a knitting travelling stitch marker on needles of 2.5mm or smaller, although as a clip-on marker for crochet it can be used with any size of hook or yarn.

When new, you may find that the lobster clasp is a little stiff, but it will loosen up with use.

The charms used for these markers are a mixture of double-sided and single-sided.

FAQs

I am happy to discuss your personalised requirements via Etsy Conversations. For instance, if you would like markers in a gemstone not listed, I will do my best to source your requirement; or if you would like to include specific gemstones in a piece of jewellery. Please message me so that we can discuss your precise requirements.
Each Stitch Marker order is packaged in a pretty handmade cotton drawstring bag and wrapped in tissue paper. If you would prefer me not to secure the wrapping so that you can check the order before giving it as a gift, then please let me know in the Notes to Seller, otherwise I shall stick the tissue paper down.
Each Jewellery order is shipped in a gift box, made from recycled materials.
