This field is a small portion of a larger print. It was taken from an artist working proof of the etching "Fresh Sign" that I printed during the plate formation process. 5" x 2 3/4

The original image is drawn onto a metal plate which is then etched in acid to bite the lines down into the copper plate. The plate is then inked up and printed to see what I need to do next. As the image is progressing with repeated drawing, re-drawing, to enhance values and line definition, then I re-etch the plate in acid to bite the new lines and values into the plate. If there are areas on the image that have values that need to be lightened or even removed from the plate, I begin scraping and burnishing the copper plate to create variations in values much like an eraser. Once I complete making changes to the plate that I deemed necessary, I ink up the plate again and reprint it to see if I have accomplished what I set out to do. These proofs are a record of the work in progress and are one of a kind.

Creating etchings of any kind for me is a rather lengthy process most of the time and it can take anywhere from months up to years to complete a single image depending on the size and complexity of the work. Once I complete the image, I usually print an edition of anywhere from 15 to 75 prints from the plate but sometimes the plate itself dictates how many prints you can make before it begins to wear out.

Sold unmatted and unframed. This cameo is not numbered, however, I am happy to sign it upon request.

rtist Biography updated Oct 16, 2018

I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a BFA in graphic design in 1985. My primary areas of concentration in college, and in the years to follow, have been Drawing and Printmaking, although I also enjoy working in Pastel and Oil Painting. Over the years I have participated in many outdoor art shows, exhibited my work in local galleries and had my work accepted, exhibited, and awarded in various National Shows across the United States. One of my pastels, “Late Summer afternoon on the LeTort” was printed in a Fly Fishing Book published by Stackpole Books called “Selectivity”, written by a well-known author and fly fishing guide. I was also blessed to have a large color etching displayed in the Augusta National Club House, accepted and sold at the Master’s Golf Tournament from 1992-94. I was very fortunate my “Augusta National, View from Magnolia Lane” color etching was purchased by many patrons from Miami to California, Europe to South Africa as well as from the Far East. Truly humbled and honored, some of my patrons were past Master’s champions.

I enjoyed the opportunity to teach Youth and Adult, Drawing and Printmaking classes at the Danville Community Art Center in KY from 2011 to 2015 until my husband and I moved back to Ohio. We currently reside in Beavercreek, OH where I work full time in my home studio and am excited as I begin putting down roots in the Art community in and around the Dayton area.
