Description

I had a lovely life of play with my last owner as a Bratz doll, and when that finished Helen's Mum found me at a car boot sale with some of my friends. Helen gave me a bath and washed, brushed and trimmed my hair, then she took off my makeup and found my own natural face underneath. When I was nice and clean, I went to Auntie Danka's house so she could make my new outfit just for me, then Helen made me some welly boots to match my new clothes.

Now I'm ready for a new home, ready to meet new friends, ready for new adventures, ready for anything!

These dolls were bought as fashion dolls at car boot sales and have been thoroughly cleaned and renovated. Being pre-owned, some of them may have marks, scuffs or imperfections (don't we all!) but they're still in great condition for play.

each one of these dolls takes many hours of care and skill to complete. Like the dolls themselves, the process for each one is unique, depending on the original condition and other factors it can take up to 8 hours of work from start to finish.
They were made as one of thousands, now they are unique. They are wearing custom clothes by Danka Wieckowska, handmade removable silicone boots and come in their very own adventure case for playtime on the move!

The materials used are non toxic and professional grade, the paint has been sealed with a UV resistant Matt varnish so they wear permanent sunscreen! This said, the paint and varnish will not be quite as hard wearing as the factory paint, so it is not advisable to give to small children who might not have learned to play nice yet! The handmade silicone boots may also present a choking hazard so we don't recommend unsupervised play for children under 5 years old.

By taking discarded fashion dolls and giving them a "make-under" I provide a credible, relatable alternative to the hyper sexualised dolls flooding the market.

I'm not the first to do this, people have been repainting dolls for years. But most "make under" dolls come with a message suggesting that fashion dolls are wrong and have a damaging influence, that these dolls are better because they occupy a moral high ground.

Whether I agree with this philosophy or not, I feel that there is a degree of guilting and shaming in the delivery of the message, what I deliver is a spirit of non judgement. If your children like to play with fashion dolls, great! We all love to dress up and play with makeup. What I offer is an alternative, a blank canvas to spark the imagination rather than a finished product with a limited range of play, which is what the fashion dolls offer.

Stripping off their factory paint, giving them more natural and individual features and giving them practical clothes that they can go and play in suggest that these are children just like them and their friends, they can be something different every day, whatever they want to be, ready for anything.
