Atticus and Us Making a Monster (Counting Book)

Favorite

Description

Atticus and Us Making a Monster is a counting book with a story to entertain both the child and adult. Atticus is making his monster masterpiece. Count along as he builds his monster identifying body parts, colors and patterns along the way.

I used lines from my son's drawing as a starting point to design the cover image. Throughout the book, the illustrations have a distinctive blend of sketchy, comic book styling with Op Art elements to make the composition of each page active and engaging for both the child and adult. The rhyme scheme flows smoothly to stimulate and engage the child. Rhyming is a part of phonemic awareness and has been shown to improve kids' language skills. As both a parent and a teacher, I value education and work to fill this story with important lessons, gorgeous illustrations and delightful humor.

I wrote and illustrated this book by hand on paper before drawing digitally on my iPad and professionally printing on high quality paper. Each page is approximately 1mm thick with rounded corners making it safe and easy for young children to turn the pages.
