8 inch long quill bobbin; base of 7/8" tapers to 3/8" tip. Quill bobbins were used in industrial textile mills to store or transfer fiber threads and yarns. We believe these are from the Royal Mills of Rhode Island. Textile equipment and machinery were marvelous examples of human ingenuity; these bobbins sat atop and spun on drive spindles with 100's of bobbins working at a time! Duffers were laborers who would have the job of pulling the full bobbins off the spindles. At one time, these bobbins were so commonplace and valueless that they were destroyed by the mill load as plastic began to take their place. It is estimated that 3/4 of all bobbins have been destroyed. There is a variety of wood tones and color, and will come assorted unless you specify a preference. All are used and have authentic wear marks or nicks; some have colored bands at top or bottom, some have brass flanges; all have a lovely patina!

Refunds are given only for items that are broken during shipping. Inspect your package before accepting it. The buyer is responsible for the cost of shipping on any returns. That being said, we do our best to describe items completely and point out any flaws that we find. We try to find out as much as possible about a particular piece, but are not experts; if you feel we have left out pertinent information, please ask, and we will investigate for you further. What we want most is for you to be happy with your new treasure!
