Description

This bracelet is a beautiful example of the costume jewellery produced in the 1940s by the Miriam Haskell company. The American manufacturer used the finest faux pearls and diamante.

Condition Report:
Good - The surface of some of the faux pearls has rubbed away in places, due to excessive wear. A couple of diamantes that were missing on acquisition have had to be replaced.

The Details...
This bracelet expands and contracts to wrap neatly around the wrist. It is constructed from gilt metal and features two rows of the Haskell company's signature Japanese faux pearls. At either end of the bracelet is a leaf design which is detailed with hand-wired faux seed pearls and faceted, claw set, small, round diamantes. The reverse of each leaf design features a Haskell company gilt metal, filigree panel. The bracelet is also signed - on the reverse of one of the leaves there is an oval, gilt metal plaque embossed with 'MIRIAM HASKELL'. The bracelet measures 6cm in diameter, when it is unexpanded and around 8cm, when it is expanded. To find out more about Miriam Haskell jewellery, visit our 'Designers' section.

A Short History...
This bracelet was created by Frank Hess in the late 1940s. He was the first designer appointed by Miriam Haskell. He specialised in creating pieces that featured faux pearls and diamante woven with wire onto gilt metal filigree backings. Hess's pieces were heavily influenced by the natural world. Featuring all of these key elements, this bracelet is an excellent example of his work. It may not be in perfect condition, but it is an important, collectable and romantic piece. This bracelet also incorporates the Haskell company's famed Japanese pearls. After the end of World War Two, Miriam Haskell travelled to Japan to source them herself. She was impressed by their deep luster, which the Japanese achieved by immersing the faux pearls in a blend called 'Essence d'Orient' - a solution comprising of cellulose, fish scales and resins. The pearls were given a crinkly surface and irregular shape in this process and were exclusively provided to the Haskell company - a further hallmark of this bracelet's prestige.

Wear it With...
This bracelet would add exceptional interest and detailing to a bridal look.

FAQs

Yes, of course. Please contact us to arrange to pay for and acquire your vintage pieces through us via layaway.
In order to help you understand the appearance of the pieces you buy, we ask you to read the ‘Condition Report’ on your item. At Gemma Redmond Vintage, there are four categories of condition:
Excellent - The item is in perfect condition.
Very Good - The item is in almost perfect condition. There are one or two signs of wear that are only visible on close inspection.
Good - The item has endured regular use well for its age, but has picked up signs of wear along the way.
Wearable - The item shows a number of signs of wear consistent with its age.
We are able to conclude the authenticity of jewellery through experience and extensive research into jeweller’s marks, design and manufacture techniques and materials used. A number of our items also have a clear provenance and all of our pieces are sourced from reputable dealers or trusted individuals, which further demonstrates their authenticity.
At Gemma Redmond Vintage, we never knowingly sell replica pieces and do our utmost to guarantee the authenticity of your item. We believe in respecting the talent of designers and the heritage of brands. Consequently, if we are in any doubt about the authenticity of a product, then it does not become a part of the collection.
- Be sure to store your jewellery within the boxes that we provide to ensure that it is protected. This is especially important when travelling with your pieces.
- Try not to get perfume or hairspray on your items. These liquids can damage the materials that our jewellery is made from.
- Try not to drop your jewellery or catch your jewellery against hard surfaces. If this happens over time, the findings and fixings can loosen and wear.
- Try not to get your jewellery wet. Some costume jewellery manufacturers utilised water soluble glue in the making of their pieces. Getting your jewellery wet could cause rhinestones and other details to fall away over time.
- If you wish to clean your jewellery, use a soft polishing cloth or a soft brush.
Every item from Gemma Redmond Vintage comes beautifully presented.
Jewellery is parcelled in a black box, stamped with our white logo. The boxes are tied with our signature ribbon.
Accessories are wrapped in tissue paper, secured with black stickers, and tied with our signature ribbon.
You will receive a thank you note and description of your item printed onto card too.
Items are sent out in shiny black jiffy bags or plain brown boxes.
