Description

Produced by the Finnish glass company Nuutajarvi Notsjo, this vase is part of the Kaisla line designed by Kaj Franck in 1952 and produced only in 1952 & 1953.

The vase stands 3 5/8" high x 4" wide at its widest point and was produced in a smoked glass that has a warm grey color. It's a smooth piece that has a wonderful feel in the hand and a surprising heft due to its thick walls. It weighs 1 lb. 3 ozs. so it's quite heavy for its small size.

There are no chips or cracks, but there are fine scratches to the exterior, particularly on the bottom of the piece (as seen in the fifth picture above). None of them are particularly troubling and never prevented me from displaying it, but scratches & marks can be a deal breaker for the serious glass collector, so be aware that this piece isn't gallery perfect. Under strong light, there is a faint deposit that seems to have formed within the stretched air bubbles. I don't see that as a problem, since it occurred as a side effect of the manufacturing process. I particularly like the stretched air bubbles within the wall of the vase, they add interest to the elegantly simple form. Also visible in the photo is Kaj Franck's engraved signature on the bottom.

Processing time for this item will be brief; I like to get my orders shipped within 48 hours, typically using Priority Shipping via the USPS.

Also, please note that I DO NOT currently ship outside the United States.
