Item details

Vintage from the 1960s

Materials

Metal, Chrome, Plastic

This is a Wizard Truetype manual typewriter. The Wizard typewriters were made by Brother in the early 1960s, and sold at W.A. Family Stores and Western Auto stores around the country. (Yes, they sold typewriters at auto parts stores back then.) Like other rebranded Brother machines, they all featured the same compact, reliable core design, with slight modifications to the case and other cosmetic elements. This Wizard is of a pale yellow color, and is in good condition.

As with all my typewriters, I have cleaned, lubricated, repaired, and polished this vintage typewriter, and it is ready to use. You can start writing with this machine as soon as you get it home

**COSMETIC CONDITION**
Cosmetically, this Wizard typewriter is in good condition. The pale yellow color is subtle and appealing, and rather different from most Brothers made at the time. There are some rust areas in the inner frame, but these are mostly unseen and hidden by the case. The metal accents are bright, and the off-white plastic keys look good.

This type writer also comes with a snap-on plastic case. Part of the back corner of the case--the part that latches onto the machine-has broken off, but it still seems to hold the machine well enough to carry by the case handle without falling out. Nevetheless, you may want to be careful when carrying this machine.

**MECHANICAL CONDITION**
Mechanically, this vintage Brother manual typewriter is in very good shape. The Brother machines are all light, well made, and reliable, and this example is no different. The only mechanical issue on this typewriter is that the backspace is a little sluggish. This may be a lubrication problem, or it may be a mechanical issue that needs adjustment. I will update this listing if and when I correct the issue. Other than that, all mechanical features work well.

**INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING**
I will ship internationally, but you'll have to contact me first. Let me know where you are located and I will provide a shipping estimate.

**RECOMMENDED BUYER**
I would recommend this machine to someone new to typewriters who wants an entry-level machine, a designer who wants a yellow vintage typewriter for decorative purposes, or someone looking for a compact typewriter with an uncommon color. Like other Brother typewriters, this Wizard is small, reliable, and cute. It's a nice, working vintage typewriter ready for a new home.

Thanks for looking, and as always, feel free to ask me any questions.

- Mark

Returns and exchange details

I sell vintage and antique typewriters that are no longer made, some of which are 100 years old or more. As much as I'd love to be able to tell you that they will always be problem-free and last forever, I can't, because they won't.

Older machines can develop problems without notice, even if they're properly maintained and loved. I promise to accurately describe, photograph, or video any typewriter I sell. If you want additional photos or have questions about anything, all you have to do is ask. You can also inspect the machines in person if you are in the Kansas City area.

So, to make a long story short, I will accept most returns, but I do ask that you pay for return shipping. If your typewriter does not work as it should upon arrival, I'll accept a return unless it was sold as a display model. Also, if you do experience a problem, many times there is a simple repair that will solve it. I can often walk you through the repair so you don't have to send the typewriter back.

Shipping policies

Unless otherwise agreed to or specified, I'll ship all typewriters via USPS, FedEx, or UPS at my discretion. I will use the method that is most economical for my buyers, and will ship to anywhere in the continental United States.

If you are located outside of the United States, please contact me before making a purchase. I can usually arrange shipping, but I don't want to make any promises I cannot keep.

As far as packaging goes, shipping typewriters is notoriously problematic for some people. Typewriters have heavy moving parts (the carriages) that can be easily damaged if not properly secured. I lock the carriages on all shipped typewriters if they have that feature, but I may also secure them with additional safety measures. I use a variety of techniques to make sure your machine gets to you in exactly the same condition it was in when I boxed it up.

Please be advised that some typewriters are very heavy, and can weigh 40 pounds or more. These heavier machines naturally have higher shipping costs associated with them.

Additional policies

A lot of vintage stuff, especially typewriters, is beautiful and awesome. But I suppose you already knew that.
