Description
A single antique industrial wooden spool (a.k.a. textile bobbins, quills, spindles) from an old textile mill. Use for as a nostepinne (center pull yarn ball winder), rustic decor, primitive crafts, an organizer for fibers, laces and trims, photo props, ring displays. These quills are something to re-use, not toss. I quickly refund any shipping over-payments beyond a dollar without being asked. Haven't had one complaint yet!
The wooden textile mill spindle or quill is a bit of textile history. Made to last and used during a time when organic was how all fiber was farmed. Victorian textile mills developed wooden bobbins, quills and spools to organize the threads on their looms, completely transforming the way textiles were produced during the industrial revolution. Any paint colors (now faded) on quills designated where they 'worked' in the mill.
height: 8 to 9.5 inches tall
width: about 1 inch at wire-wrapped base
details: Some have metal flashing around the shaft, some are more heavily glazed than others and shades vary from dark to blonde. Some still have bits of paint near the base or tip. Note: yarn shown in last two photos is for example only, all quills will be shipped bare as in the first three photos.
