Description

According to Lise Manniche an Egyptian author and scholar, Kyphi is the Latin version of the Greek translation of the ancient Egyptian kapet. This term refers to a scent released through smoke.

Lunalily's Kyphi Essential Oil Mixture is based on an ancient incense recipe by this name.

The incense was one of three ritual incenses that were burnt daily in Egypt. Frankincense resin was burned in the morning, Myrrh was burned every day at noon, and an incense known in Egypt as Kapet, was burned every evening. In Manniche's 'Sacred Luxuries' she lists several recipes for Kyphi, most of which include some combination the following herbs and resins: Frankincense Boswellia carterri, Myrrh Commiphora myrrha, Spikenard Nardastachus jatamanski, Calamus Acorus calamus, Lemongrass Cymbopogon citratus, Cinnamin Cinnamomum zeylanicum, Cassia Cinnamomum cassia, Juniper Juniperous communis, and Pine Pinus sylvestris

"[Kyphi] relaxes and loosens the chain-like sorrows and tensions of daily cares," describes Plutarch, a Roman historian who lived in the first century. He also claims that its scent "Purifies and polishes like a mirror the faculty which is imaginative and receptive to dreams." (Manniche).

Several of the essential oils in this formula are known to be sedative, antimicrobial, and potentially euphoric. Examine the synergy of chemical constituents that are present in these essential oils and one can begin to understand how this mixture could indeed invoke the description, as was stated by Plutarch.

I believe regularly diffusing essential oils can help individuals facilitate a more relaxed and meditative state.

This mixture is available in 4 ml size. Larger sizes may be available upon request.
