Description

A large, substantial pendant, with a black matrixed aqua blue Variscite. Similar in look to turquoise, but lighter in color, and more rare, with a hard, glassy shine.

2" tall by 1 1/4" wide, weighing 14.1 grams. The stone is 7/8" by 7/8", surrounded by an ice-crystal motif.
This piece was made from 100% recycled sterling silver. I cast it using old sterling silver flatware.
The pendant will be shipped with a 20' 1.7 mm oxidized rounded box style SS chain.
This is Prince Mine variscite from the Candelaria Hills, Mineral County, Nevada. It was mined by the company ‘Out of Our Mines’ in 2005. Variscite is a wonderful stone; this material is natural and untreated. Most of the variscite from this mine has a high silica content which makes it much harder than 4.5 on the Mohs scale that is usually published as the hardness of variscite. I was told by the miners that most of this material’s hardness is over 6 on the Mohs scale.
Variscite is a hydrated aluminium phosphate mineral. It is relatively rare and is often found as nodules.

I cut and polished this stone myself and enjoyed every minute of it.
This piece is also available in a variety of different stones cut by me especially for the piece. It is also available in different metals and different shaped stones. Ask me about that.
