The wood itself is imported directly from Ireland. It is referred to as "Irish Bog Oak" or "Black Oak". Found submerged and preserved in bogs, it has been carbon dated with an age rage spanning from 3,000 to 8,000 years old. A brief history of the wood can be found further down.
The Celtic Knot motif dates back to 5th century and represents the truth of eternity and interconnected spirit.
The antiqued brass finish is designed to simulate the sophisticated sheen of time-worn brass. The authentic patina and natural darkening brings out the details of the finish.
Includes a medium Schmidt gold and iridium nib plus a cartridge.
Wood History:
The Irish climate was warmer and drier thousands of years ago. Oak trees grew profusely throughout the country.
When the climate changed to a wetter and damper system, the roots of great oaks lost their grip in the soggy soil and fell to the ground. The tanic acid in the oak trees interacted with the decaying vegetation turning the oak black or a darker brown and preserving it for posterity. It is often referred to as black oak.
This decaying vegetation forms today's bogs. As the turf is cut the ancient oak is uncovered where it was lain for thousands of years.
