Make a statement wearing this 16" freeform beaded necklace. This piece was inspired by the BP oil spill that has taken place on the Gulf Coast. The summer of 2010 has been marked with the worst environmental catastrophe in the history of the United States. Everyday, I can't help but to think about all of the innocent birds and sea creatures whose lives have ended as a result of man's greediness. I wanted to express this thought in a necklace, so I purposely trapped the starfish within the black oil beadwork.
This piece was made entirely of glass seed beads and a 30mm sterling silver starfish pendant. Beads are an assortment of blues and black- blue representing the ocean, and black representing the oil that has caused so much damage to the marine ecosystem. Beads were woven using a needle and strong nylon thread. The clasp is a Bali Silver s-clasp.
Media: Czech & Japanese glass seed beads, sterling silver starfish pendant
