Vintage Pewter Porringer Bowl Woodbury Pewterers RH Colonial Porringers Bar Collectible Barware Memorabilia Metalware Drinking Cup

Straight from an Estate Sale in New England from a collector of Metal-ware – Pewter, Brass & Copper, I offer this vintage Woodbury Pewter Porringer Bowl.

Description - A porringer is a shallow bowl, between 4 and 6 inches in diameter, and 1½" to 3" deep; the form originates in the medieval period in Europe and they were made in wood, ceramic, pewter and silver. They had flat, horizontal handles. Colonial porringers tended to have one handle, whereas European ones tend to have two handles on opposite sides, on which the owner's initials were sometimes engraved, and they occasionally came with a lid. Porringers resembled the smaller quaich, a Scottish drinking vessel.

One can discern authentic pewter porringers in much the same way that silver can be authenticated from the touch marks that were stamped either into the bowl of the porringer or on its base.

Excellent Vintage Condition, Woodbury Pewterers RH Woodbury, CT. There are no dents, dings or Damage other than some light scratches / wear from normal use or display. Needs a good cleaning to restore it to proper luster and condition.

It is stamped on the bottom with Woodbury Pewterers RH Logo. It was made circa 1960 – 1970’s.

Porringer Bowl measures 1 1/2 inches tall, 4 15/16 inches wide including the handle, the opening is 3 1/2 inches in diameter and the base is 2 3/4 inches in diameter.

Whether for the new collector or the connoisseur, this beautiful Pewter Porringer Bowl will be a lovely addition to your vintage bar collection!!

History

Woodbury Pewterers was founded in 1952, in the town of Woodbury, CT. by Ruth Holbrook and Lee R. Titcomb. The original location was a small blacksmith shop located next to the historic Hurd House in the center of town. In 1967, the business was re-located to its current location. Each piece of Woodbury Pewter is hand-crafted from the highest quality pewter using many of the same methods and tools that were used in the 18th & 19th centuries. Many of these tools, drawings, and various advertising pieces are on permanent display at our visitors’ gallery located at the Factory Outlet Store, which features a special section to view Woodbury Pewter pieces actually being made. Woodbury Pewter still remains a “family owned and operated” business with several second and third generation employees.

All Woodbury Pewter is hand-crafted in Woodbury, Connecticut. Master craftspeople using a wide variety of methods, carefully produce each piece of pewter with the skills and pride that is clearly apparent in every piece.
