Description

Illustrated Book: "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes", by Anita Loos, published c. 1929 by Grosset and Dunlap, in a first state photoplay edition dust jacket. Included is the accompanying board bookmark advertising Grosset and Dunlap's "Books of Distinction" for just $1.00 which would have been laid in the book by the publisher and sold with the book.

This is a "very good" book in its original, relatively rare dust jacket, being "good" condition.

This vintage hard cover is really quite pleasing! The boards are wrapped in a dappled paper with the spine being red cloth. A little edge wear to the boards, with most pronounced being at the front cover bottom at corner where the underneath board is visible. The spine is tight and solid, the gutters / hinges are not split, no loose pages, no folded page corners or tears. The board corners are lightly bumped along with the spine head and heel, the heel being more so. Aside from a 1929 Christmas inscription inside the front end paper, there is not writing in the book.

In addition to the glossy frontispiece showing a publicity shot of Ruth Taylor and Alice White from the 1928 Paramount Pictures film, there are three more glossy, full page stills from the film interspersed through the book plus approximately 2 dozen black and white illustrations by Ralph Barton, which are rather fun, in the fashion of what you might see in The New Yorker magazine.

The first state, photoplay edition jacket is not clipped, depicting a wonderful "flapper" cover art. The jacket is relatively well kept, with a small loss at the front top by the spine (see images), and two much smaller ones at the top of the back. Small losses at the flap folds, some light edge wear and a little spotting near the bottom by the spine. The spine is lightly tanned. Overall, a rather pleasing copy of a somewhat hard-to-find vintage jacket!

Will ship carefully packaged and fully insured.

FAQs

In most cases, I can offer combined shipping discounts on multiple items.

You do not need to do anything. Place your order for your items, and when I am fulfilling your order, I will credit back excess shipping fees to your account.
If an item gets stalled in transit, let me know. I can open a case with USPS to track it down. Please allow 2 weeks for me to work with USPS to locate your package.

If a package is marked "Delivered" but you did not get it, let me know. I will call your P.O. to speak with the carrier directly or have them check the GPS scan on the package. If theft is suspected, I will ask you to file a Stolen Mail Claim with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and your local law enforcement. These records are essential to help catch mail thieves.

If an item arrives damaged, hold on to all packing materials. I require photographs of the damaged item and the packing materials to refund. I may ask that the item be returned to me at my expense.
If you notice the error prior to receiving the shipping notice, let me know ASAP.

Unfortunately, once a package is shipped out to an incorrect address, there is little I can do to get it back.

Please make sure your address within Etsy is correct before finalizing your order.
Art & Prints:

To request a return, please contact me within 7 days of delivery. Late requests may be declined.

The item must be returned to me in the same condition as when we sent it - I.E - "as new", salable condition - for a refund. Return shipping at buyers expense.

Refunds will be credited upon our receipt of the item.

I recommend that you purchase tracking and insurance for the return package, as items lost during return shipping not insured are sadly: lost.

Refunds are for the item price only.

As per our policies page, we are diligent about our descriptions, and in more than 7 years on Etsy, have never had a return.
