Description

This cigarette case depicting the Taj Mahal Palace on it's front and rear side, has very slight differences between the two faces, suggesting it was hand engraved.

The two depictions also have differing enameling, the lid has a white enameled palace, whilst the other facing has some traces of white on the palace, and trees which are enameled in black.

Both facings have a bezel enameled in red.

The item was undoubtedly made in India

The interior is not enameled, and has a very reflective finish, suggesting the item is made from a copper based nickel alloy, widely known as Nickel Silver or German Silver, or Alpaca Silver.

( It should be noted that none of these variants actually contain any silver )

On the inside, the two restraining ribbons have lost their elasticity due to age, and one has become detached from it's holder though a loose part is contained within the item, and could perhaps be re-attached.

The lid closes well with a comforting click, and opens easily when the catch is pressed.

The case is 10.5 cm by 8.0 cm and weighs 110 gm
