Description

This elegantly formed vase is handsome enough to be displayed by itself. A perfect piece to house an arrangement of faux greenery, a collection of interesting organic materials (such as cones or pods), etc. It was hand thrown on a potters wheel from white stoneware clay. What sets it apart form my other pottery is that it was fired in a wood-fired kiln. It's very durable but I still caution my customers to treat it with a bit of extra care as you would with any of your very special decorative pieces.

• THE GLAZE: Layered with lightly speckled, glossy glazes in cobalt blue, white & black. There's also some semi-matte charcoal gray in the layers, as well. Interestingly, the glaze colors & even the stoneware clay take on a warmer, "toastier" appearance when fired in a wood-fired kiln. This is most visible on the bottom where the clay took on a warm brownish color.

The intense heat of a wood-fired kiln sometimes causes glazes to be a little unpredictable. This is evident on the white area of the rim where the glaze thinned out & separated from the clay a bit. Please refer to image #4 above. This doesn't affect the quality of this one-of-a-kind beauty a bit.

• DIMENSIONS:
Height: 5-1/2"
Width at rim: 5-1/2"
Width at widest point of pot: approx. 7"

• DETAILS,DETAILS: All my pottery is hand thrown on the potter's wheel & is constructed from high fire white stoneware clay. It was bisque-fired in my electric kiln, decorated with my own unique combination of glazes & fired in a wood-fire kiln called an Anadama kiln.
