SPERM WHALE (Physeter Catodon) Length 36- 65 ft.. Weight 22- 63 tons. A toothed whale with the largest brain of any animal and the worlds largest carnivore. This massive cetacean feeds on octopus, squid, & fish and can stay submerged for almost 2 hours. The name comes from the milky-white waxy substance, spermaceti, found in the animals head that was used to produce candles, soap, cosmetics, & machine oil. A cow's gestation period is 14-15 months while the calf is 13 ft. long at birth and suckles for 4 years or more.
