Make your own wheelchair coat! I know the thought has crossed your mind. Maybe you are still putting coats on backwards. Maybe you are still tucking blankets in all over the place trying to keep your loved one warm without tangling the blanket in the wheels. You need to make something warm that truly keeps the weather off. You probably even have some fabric set aside, just waiting for the perfect inspiration to hit you like lightning!
Here it is! Not only is this a great place to start, but it will walk you straight through to a great finished product. Something to tuck in your loved ones quickly and easily without disturbing the buckles and harnesses. And it will stay on better without falling down and tangling in the wheels.
Wherever we go with our daughter, we are asked about her wheelchair coat. I am thrilled to share the pattern I designed with you! I have sewn many, many coats and jackets over the years. Use my knowledge and experience to create something functional and personalized. And then walk around smiling brightly at everyone who admires your work. You can do it! And if you get stuck, I am an email away to answer questions and cheer you on.
Sizes are child size to adult. Use my measurements as a jumping off point to make a custom coat to fit the individual you are sewing for.

0 out of 5 starsThe instructions are clear and do include how to adjust for people of various sizes. I thought it would include how to make it enclose the feet. She just has it tucked in. I did not make the hood. My husband uses head controls and hood would get in the way. The hole without the hood is too large so I ended up not cutting the button area.
