Description

Not the Lone Wolf Medicine Bag...How we love creating medicine bags with wolves... They are the most popular image I do. Especially wolf images that frighten us... just a bit.
I feel moved to attempt to dispel the common place “lone wolf” metaphor. It doesn't have anything to do with wolves in their natural state. Any wolf out on his own is man made. If humans destroy the pack so that only one wolf remains — then you have made a lone wolf. But you really do have to either kill off the rest of the pack, or somehow capture and cage a wolf to get it to suffer isolation and fit that role.

But the romanticized idea of a wolf... of such independent spirit that it finds its own way, follows its own rules, breaks all ties with its own wolfish past, rebels against the norm of the pack, and takes pride in its ability to survive alone — has absolutely nothing to do with wolf nature. It has to do with human nature, and humans search for ways to romanticize and legitimize their own aberrant behavior.

Wolves are pack animals — family animals. And this means pack/tribe/family by their wolf definition, not by man’s. They want the company. They want to belong and they feel no shame in wanting the security and safety of the pack. They live together, they cooperate, they follow the leader, and they allow themselves to need the pack — without recrimination.
This is a fantasy, this lone wolf idea. I know there are folks out there that will immediately see a "lone wolf" when they see a single wolf as a unique and powerful symbol to admire...because there is no such thing.

A wolf alone is a wolf broken and a wolf damaged. One day, maybe people will do away with this romance novel style of "lone wolf" ideas. We need to adopt and admire its true nature of family/pack identity.

Be reminded when you see one, know they are many when you are wearing Not the Lone Wolf Medicine Bag...

This bag is 3 1/2 by 5 inches embellished with silver and black glass beads hung from a 26 inch braided leather lanyard...

FAQs

The section called Gallery CUSTOM from Sold is to help customers wanting a custom-made bag to find similar bag ideas. Select one of these and I will make a CUSTOM bag for you similar to it or of the same subject matter. The bag color is of my choice but I will try to accommodate a special request. These bags cannot be duplicated, obviously, being one-of-a-kind creations. Once a custom-made order is placed there are no exchanges, new selection or return.
Earthwayspirits medicine bags are hand crafted and hand painted, one of a kind. The craftmeanship of the leather pouch is substantial. The beading is secured with polyester threat to prevent breaking. The painting, however, will not withstand misuse of any kind; stretching, scraping or exposing it to any liquids. I use a fabric paint sealant to make the paint and ink more adherant. Under normal wear and tear, earthwayspirits medicine bags should last years. Store in a dry, dark and cool place...
Allow me 8 days to create your medicine bag and then add shipping time. Please inquire through Etsy messaging if you would like to request a specific color leather or beading be used, only if available.
