He cut down a cherry tree and then refused to lie about it. He crossed the Delaware and led the US to victory in the Revolutionary War. He was our first president and he had wooden teeth.
And now he's ready to go on whatever adventures your child can drag him on. He is a General George Washington doll.
From hat to toe, he is 10 inches of historical fun. He has already elicited questions from my daughter... "Who's that man Mommy?"... that have lead to conversations about her country's history. Exactly what I hoped for. It has inspired me to knit other historical figures.
He is also the perfect size for little hands to grab on to and the perfect temperament to cuddle with at night. Who wouldn't feel safe with the nation's greatest general keeping watch?
Maybe a new fad will sweep the nation and doll's of a historical nature will replace Justin Bieber dolls on the shelves of stores everywhere! (One can dream :-) !)
Would also be great for a history buff or for folks with Americana or colonial decorative taste.
The General's outer shell is wool, so he'll need to be hand washed in cold water and air dried.
His innards are comprised of beans and polyfil. I can omit either if you'd prefer and I also have some wool to stuff him with if an all natural doll is preferred.
Please allow up to, but not necessarily, two weeks to knit. I try to keep my items in stock to cut down on the wait.
