Description

This one is feminine and peaceful. Blues prevail with a hint of violet. Hand-marbled and one-of-a-kind.

This large scarf has been carefully dipped in swirled paint on the surface of water; producing a completely original one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art. Each one is separately marbled in my Upper Peninsula Michigan studio. there is no others like them!

• Artist-quality acrylic paint is very permanent and thin and does not affect the hand of the silk.

• Soft, lightweight 100% silk. The scarf is sheer when held to light.

• 14 x 72 inches

• Machine-hemmed

• Hand washable. Care instructions included.

• Backside is un-marbled, showing a ghost-image of the marbled design

• Your scarf will arrive folded. To remove wrinkles, press with your iron on "silk" setting.

• Need a gift box? Order separately here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/241555291/scarf-gift-box?ref=shop_home_active_1

• I use very high quality Chinese silks. They sport a small synthetic tag that reads "Made in China". I leave them in, but you may carefully snip yours out if you prefer. These tags also occasionally become marked with paint during the marbling process.

• The acrylic paint is heat-set into the silk and quite permanent. Hand-wash your scarf with mild soap as you would any delicate. Line-dry. Set your iron to "silk" and press for renewed perfection!

• As with any humanly-marbled effort, some imperfections can be visible on the front of the work, and occasionally stray paint can appear on the back. This is the nature of hand-made work. Though I offer only my best work, I am indeed…human.

A word about silk:

Silk is a natural fiber known for it's strength and durability. It feels delicate but has a lively "bounce"; holding its shape and taking on a life of its own when draped or wrapped. I use only first-quality silk made by the Chinese--known for their silk expertise dating back to ancient times.

Most of my marbling is done on Habotai silk, which is lightweight, sheer, billowy, and fairly smooth to the touch. As noted, some listings are made with heavier weight satin silk. These scarves are thicker with a shiny smooth top texture and may be less so on the back. They are much less sheer and have a more solid appearance. Thus, the backsides are more evident as backsides when these scarves are tied. That is, the backs are solid and appear very different from the fronts.

My silk scarves are, again, very durable and can be hand-washed again and again as you would wash any delicate. I advise washing a scarf that touches your skin after each wearing.

Shipping policies

All Buyers:

I use the United States Postal Service (USPS) for domestic and international orders. We have not yet lost a package!

Orders consisting of more than small scrap packs are packed gently and firmly in cardboard to resist damage, and shipped as soon as possible after your payment is received, usually within 3 days or one to two weeks for kit and paint orders. Marbled papers are never folded unless you ask me to fold them for the purpose of saving on shipping costs. You will be notified via Etsy Convo as soon as the order ships, and if there is more than one package to expect (Some items need very different packing arrangements and don’t “play well” with others).

No order is insured beyond reasonable and customary U.S. Postal procedures unless you ask for special arrangements when placing your order. All orders except small scrap collections are track-able. You will receive a tracking number when the order ships.

Please know that I recycle shipping materials to save money and natural resources. Your shipment may not look crisp and brand new on the outside, but rest assured your items will be well protected on the inside from the perils of shipping. I use a variety of bubble wrap, paper, air-filled-plastic-thingies, and even other assorted (maps, newspaper, wadded newspaper) filler. :) I'm resourceful and creative to the bone, I'm afraid.

I will happily ship straight to your giftee as well as include a personal note as requested. Just leave me this info in the “Note to Seller” box at checkout.

U.S. Buyers:

All domestic (U.S.) orders weighing under 15 oz. are shipped via USPS First Class Mail. Packages weighing 15 oz. and over are shipped via USPS Priority mail with the exception of marbling kits, which are shipped via Parcel Select to make shipping more affordable. Upgrades (faster shipping times) may be available on request BEFORE YOU PURCHASE. Contact me please. Please remember that shipping around any holiday can be very unpredictable, and a request for an upgrade is recommended.

While packages generally arrive MUCH sooner, I allow the post office 2 weeks for Domestic delivery before becoming concerned.

International Buyers:

MarblingSupplies uses First Class Mail International, via the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Customs fees, tariffs, or any other associated delivery fees, expected or unexpected are the responsibility of the buyer, not MarblingSupplies or Etsy.com.

While packages generally arrive MUCH sooner, I allow the post office 6 weeks for International delivery before becoming concerned.

Though marbled papers themselves do not pose a problem, I cannot fully guarantee shipping of all SUPPLIES to international destinations. Customs officials may be suspicious of some items due to their appearance and intercept shipping. White powdered substances do resemble cocaine and other illicit substances. Liquid gall and paint could also be suspect.

I DO GUARANTEE that I will research your destination to determine whether I think it reasonable to attempt shipping, and if so, do my very best to please customs officials by following your country's protocol. If I determine the shipping to be risky to your destination, I will recommend that we purchase additional insurance and let you know the cost. Marbled Goods does not take responsibility for lost or stolen shipments; though I’ll do my best to recover any cost for you through insurance claims where applicable.

You, too, can help by providing any information specific to your country regarding customs protocol. Thank you for your understanding.
