Journey back to the opulent days of Marie Antoinette in a sumptuous court-worthy gown. This 18th century-inspired Watteau gown will be custom made for you, in a silk blend satin or silk taffeta, with similar trimmings. A mockup of the bodice portion of the dress, in plain fabric, will be mailed to you in order to check fit before cutting the real fabric.

This is a "robe a la Francaise," or Sack-backed gown, so known for the pleats which fall gracefully off the back of the shoulder into a small train at the hem. This style of gown was exceedingly popular during the 1750's-1770's. The fitted, boned bodice base is adjustable under these pleats, making this a wonderfully versatile gown, as it will still fit if you gain or loose a few inches with no alterations necessary! The bodice opens with hooks and eyes up the side front, and the front "stomacher" is boned. The front of the skirt is open, revealing a matching, trimmed underskirt beneath (the back of the underskirt will be made from a matching but more economical cotton fabric, as was done in the period). The ruched trimmings, made from the dress fabric, scroll down the front of the skirt and around the stomacher in a pattern based upon 18th century examples. If you choose a taffeta, the edges of these trimmings can be pinked.

My pattern for this gown is based upon hours of historical research. The gown will be constructed with a mix of modern theatrical and period accurate techniques, with the exterior of the dress following historical accuracy as closely as possible. All seams will be machine stitched and serged. Visible stitching will be done by hand.

NOTE: A pair of pocket hoops is included with the dress, to achieve the period silhouette. I suggest that an 18th century corset also be worn with the gown, but it is not absolutely required as the stomacher and bodice have light plastic boning included, and will give enough structure for smaller sizes.

I will need the following measurements:
Bust
Waist
Hip
Back of neck to Waist
US Bra size
Waist to floor
