Description

Measures: 28" long X 11" tall (with handle) X 8 1/4" deep X 5 1/2" box height

Although this is an authentic tool box used by a carpenter from the early 1900s it has been used as a planter for that difficult task (for me) of propagating herbs in the kitchen. It works perfectly positioned under the cabinets on a countertop. I used a simple grow light to provide the needed light and that acted as a wonderful nightlight!

It is such an interesting item as it was made with cuts in the top sides to hold saw blades and the calculated work measurements of the carpenter are still evident on the inside ends of the box. (see image 5) The carpenter who made the box even signed his name - probably to indicate ownership setting his apart from anothers. (see image 4)

Each top end is reinforced with a metal tab plate and the entire box construction is held together with old nails making this a very interesting - rustic - certainly authentic box for a whole host of decorative possibilities!

Please note that it is a very long box measuring 28" on length. It is sturdy - intact and ready to use. There are a few spots of paint splatter as seen in the first image but nothing significant and if inclinded can be removed completly and easily.

Seems a shame to cover it with a distressed finish - hiding all the personal details provided by a lifetime of actual use - but with the proper planting and greenery this box as a presentation looks wonderful. I used small plates to protect the bottom but always removed the pots for watering to not only preserve the box but to also prevent making a mess on the counter top.

***If you are close to NYC or in the Northeast shipping cost will be much less than listed. Adjustments will be made upon order and shipping completion.
