Description

This is NOT your traditional wedding planning guide.

Then again, if you’re planning on having a destination wedding, then you’re probably anything BUT traditional.

You’re probably wondering where you should start, I mean, there’s so much to think about: menu, flowers, cake, invites, save the date cards, budget, who pays for what, etiquette, wedding showers, etc. The list just goes on, sometimes even farther than your destination wedding location!

STOP!!!

And hold on for a sec. It really doesn’t have to be complicated.

This is your wedding, it can be anything you and your spouse-to-be would like.

When you close your eyes and imagine your wedding, what do you see?

What are the top five things that come to mind? Your spouse-to-be next to you, sand between your toes, sunset in the background, your loved ones around you, your lace dress fluttering in the breeze (which is so natural and light that you’re barely sweating in the tropical weather)?

Plan the wedding of your dreams — on your own terms.

Should you hire a wedding planner, let the venue arrange the details, or do you want to do it all yourself?

If you don’t like planning, then it’s probably best to hire a planner.

If you love getting your hands dirty down to the last detail, then you would probably enjoy doing it yourself.

Or you could take the middle ground like I did: find your own photographer, do your own makeup (after all, Kate Middleton did her wedding makeup herself, why can’t you?), and leave the rest of the planning to the venue.

What about legals? Your planner could advise you on this, as well as the venue. Is it giving you a headache? Then you may also do as we (and one of our close friends) have done: get legally registered in your home country then have your blessing or ceremony at the destination! :)

If you want to know how to choose a photographer or a wedding band or DJ, I would say make sure their portfolio and reviews are fairly consistent, and go with your gut feel.

No feeling in your gut? Then let me refer you to this article that is so amazing on its own that I would be doing you a disservice to attempt to rewrite it.

Real-World Tips from a Real Bride

What you can learn from this book are practical, real-world tips on planning your dream destination wedding the simplest way possible, with just the bare minimalistic minimum, and also with sustainability in mind. Everything else is a bonus.

Included are the actual worksheets that I’ve used to compare venue prices as well as arrange guest transport, and also some helpful tips if you ever feel stressed and discouraged, because wedding planning can get stressful, but you have to remember that ultimately, it’s a celebration of your love for each other, it’s not about how perfect the wedding could be.

Because nothing is perfect, and if you expect otherwise, you won’t be able to enjoy the moment.

Also included are some gorgeous photos from our award-winning photographer Julian Abram Wainwright to get inspiration from, because visualising your dream wedding is a must! Just like every other goal in life. 😉

Who Wrote The Book?

Oh yeah, I should probably introduce myself. My name is Gretchen — designer and blogger living in what is currently the world’s most liveable city: Melbourne.

I wrote this book because like you, I was unsure where to start when I was planning our destination wedding in December 2014 in Palawan, Philippines. It was the wedding I’ve always dreamed of since I was a little girl (daydreaming helped me escape my childhood dramas), and having a vision helped because all the other guides and articles I’ve read were giving me way too much information that I didn’t need.

I wanted a simple wedding, on the beach, at sunset, saying my vows to the man that was perfect for me. We didn’t need a big, flawless wedding; we’re just a laid-back couple (hey, that’s why we moved to ‘Straya!) who wanted to celebrate our love (after being together for seven years) at one of the most beautiful tropical destinations on earth.

If this is in any way similar to your dream, then my wish is that this book helps you plan yours the way it would have helped me plan mine.
