Description

This circa 1920's highly collectible cast iron figural doorstop has been made in the form of a tall, thin red haired man dressed in a top hat and frock coat. The man has been depicted creeping up the stairs on tiptoe while holding a magnifying glass in one hand and a flashlight in the other. He is fueled for his sneaky adventures by a bottle of liquid courage which can seen peeking out of his back pocket. The man's exaggerated long nose underscores the suggestion that he is known for poking it in places where it doesn't belong and is a great visual counterpart to the tongue-in-cheek title of the piece - "The Snooper".

This large doorstop is in good condition with no missing pieces or repairs. It retains its original paint and has not been retouched in any way. As an antique item, the doorstop shows appropriate signs of age consisting of paint loss and general wear which serve to add to its great antique vibe. The doorstop stands 13.5" tall and is 4.5" by 2.5" at the foot. The solid cast iron piece weighs in at a substantial 5lbs 3oz and is more than capable of supporting a heavy door. The piece can be seen on page 207 of John and Nancy Smith's reference book "The Doorstop Book".

This charming doorstop oozes with character and is sure to bring a smile when he is spied around the house. A fun and practical piece!

Please note that due to the value of this item, the piece will be fully insured and shipped with signature confirmation service.
