This Nes Tomte FPP (foundational paper piecing) pattern is sized for a 6"x6" finished quilt block. It has two variations (BOTH are included in the PDF download!!). One quilt block is of Nes holding up his lantern in one hand and a little forest tree in the other. The other block is a more simple design of just Nes (he can be sewn with a solid background all the way around him or he can sit on a foreground - instructions on how to do that are given in the PDF). {Note: there are no 'Y seams' in any of these blocks}

🌲Nes is an original. He's a doer. A go-getter. He makes things happen...and in a very quiet and magical way. He's got those roughed up kind of hands from working in the forest all day. The kind of hands that are always busy. All year long. He works really hard. Don't tell him I said this...but under that simple, tough exterior is a big heart. And...if you ever asked him if he had a best friend, he would say nah. But all the Tomte's know its Halvor. Since forestry and farming school 624 years ago...they've been buddies ever since.

🍄Tomte (also called Nisse, Tomten, and several other variations) is the word for gnome, brownie and/or hob in Scandinavian countries, which is where they originate from. They are known to be magical little folk who clear out forest for farmers, bring presents to little children on Christmas and seem to love it if you leave out a bowl of porridge as a thanks for the gifts they bring. Did I mention they are magical? ✨

These quilt blocks would easily lend themselves to many different finished projects like quilts, wall hangings, decorative pillows, table runners and/or tree skirts!!! They can of course be made with a Christmas or Winter theme, but they also work well with a Valentine's theme or even a lumberjack theme!! I wonder what you'll come up with! (*No finished projects are not included in the download). The blocks can easily be resized to a larger size to accommodate more projects and add variety to whatever you wish to make (your printer and/computer would need the capability to resize - most these days are able to.)

Patterns and tips, plus instructions for assembling sections together are included in the PDF. Basic paper piecing instructions are NOT included. Experience with foundational paper piecing and standard sewing supplies are needed to complete this quilt block. (A quick search online or YouTube will pull up a great selection of helpful tutorials if you're just getting started learning paper piecing!!). A PDF reader is needed for this pattern. If you do not have one, Adobe Reader is available online, usually for free.
