Dimensions

Pendant height: 1.10 Inches; Pendant width: 0.28 Inches

This pendant features a crystal of deep green chrome diopside. It measures 0.62 x 0.24 inches (15.9 x 6.1 mm) and is set in sterling silver.

Chrome diopside is a gem that has only relatively recently come to the attention of jewelers and gemologists. This is simply because gem-quality diopside hasn't been available for a very long time. Though diopside was long known as a mineral, it is only with the addition of chromium that it becomes a true gem, gaining a rich green color similar to a dark emerald. When gem-quality chrome diopside was first discovered in Russia, the miners thought they had hit emerald because of its intense, pure green color. Since then, it has also been found in a few locations in Africa and in Pakistan.

This crystal comes from Pakistan. These are particularly known for their well-formed blocky crystals and deep, intense green color. This is a particularly nice with, with great polished faces

Diopside is a member of the pyroxene group, a relatively hard and durable rock-forming mineral which only rarely forms as nice crystals. When it does, they can be very beautiful. This is a great example, with a deep green hue and excellent crystal form.
