Description

Antique Model Flint Glass Co EAPG Flint Shepherds Plaid Rose Bowl Vase Clear Potpourri Jar, Candle Holder Pattern Glass Ball Vase Circa 1890's

The Model Flint Glass Company was founded in 1888 in Findlay, Ohio. Due the depletion of the natural gas supply in Ohio, Model Flint Glass decided to move to Albany, Indiana in 1893. By October of 1899 Model Flint sold their facility to the National Glass Company. By the end of 1902, the Model Flint facility was closed, never to be reopened.

In less than 15 years the Model Flint Company created spectacular works of art that have endured for more than almost 130 years! This beautiful little ball bowl is certainly a testament to that! Made by a skilled artisan, this gorgeous round rose bowl is made of crystal clear glass that was then pressed in a wonderful mold and patterned in the Shepherds Plaid - simply magnificent work of art!

At 3-3/8” tall, roughly 4” across the mid-section, 2-1/8” at the opening and 2-3/4” across the base it is not an overpowering piece. When not in use, seeing it in a sunny room – you just can’t help but smile at its sparkling beauty! Noting that this bowl is Early American Pattern Glass (EAPG) produced between 1850 and 1917 – its sized is deceiving…this little piece weighs a pound and when exposed to black light it glows the most beautiful yellow-green color! So you can be sure this is true to the era.

Other than the expected production flaws of minor air bubbles and rippling there are very minor cuff marks on the base ring, this piece is in exceptional antique condition!

NOTE: This piece was originally produced to hold rose petals or short stemmed florals. Don’t be fooled - this is NOT the base of a sugar bowl that is missing its lid….the opening is gently rolled, so there is no lip around the opening to securely place a lid.

This exquisite piece would make a prized addition to any EAPG glass collection, or be a perfect gift idea for the discerning admirer of fine quality workmanship!
