Description

This delightful set of Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel pins or brooches are iconic pieces by Coro. The patent dates to 1941 and were designed by Gene Verrecchio. They are featured on page 114 of Carla Ginelli Brunialti and Roberto Brunialti's book American Costume Jewelry Art & Industry, 1935-1950. These Mr. and Mrs. pins came in a variety of animals and birds and each design is found in different colors. They can also be found as chatelaine sets.

Mr. and Mrs. Squirrel each has gray and black enamel fur and a blue cabochon "jelly belly". Mr. Squirrel has a rhinestone belt beneath his belly and is wearing a black top hat and holding a baton or cane. Mrs. Squirrel has a rhinestone collar and is wearing her smartest red hat that is trimmed with yellow and red flower. She is holding a bouquet of matching flowers which Mr. Squirrel thoughtfully bought her. Clearly they are ready for a special night out on the town.

These are each marked Coro on the back on the necks, close to the hinge of the clasp.

Each measures approximately 2 inches tall.

There is tarnish to the finish and some wear to the enamel and the cabochon. The stones are all present but some have darkened. Please refer to the pictures.

We have many wonderful vintage finds in our shop so be sure to look--we are always willing to combine shipping when possible.
