Pomegranate symbolizes "The House of (King) David". The top of the fruit is shaped like a crown and the Midrash (homiletical interpretation of Tora) tells that it has 613 seeds (613 is a number of Jewish commandments). Pomegranate is associated with Rosh Hashana (Jewish New Year). Pomegranate is the sixth of seven species symbolizing the fertility of the Land of Israel. The silver ornaments on the staves of Torah are called Rimmonim (pomegranates), and are likewise decorated with tiny bells.

This is a ceramic miniature ( 3.2 x 3.5 cm, or 1 1/8 x 1 1/4 in ) sculpture, modeled by hand. Fired. Then glazed with a transparent glaze. Fired high temperature (stoneware). Then painted all over by 24K gold luster. Fired the third time. The gold had been burnt in some places, leaving pinkish "clouds", which enhance the fascination of the handwork and ceramic firing.

Signed on the bottom by my personal seal - chrysanthemum.
