Awesome chunky unusual Bakelite button bracelet vintage antique browns black butterscotch jewelry 1950's retro buttons rich fall color
The unmistakable rich, warm colors of bakelite are made even more appealing with these turn of the century buttons. Bakellite is a pre-plastic that was first developed in the late 1800's and used widely in the first half of the 20th century. It had many uses: pot handles, dishes, jewelry, buttons, and telephones to name a few. Anything bakelite is highly collectible now, and difficult to find. The colors of bakelite are always warm, and usually hover around fall colors.
The cookie button on the center stack is a perfect touch. The two buttons flanking the center one have built in lacing which is quite worn, but makes these quite unusual.
A word about Bakelite:
From the article Bakelite vs. Catalin - Antique Radio Forums •
"True Bakelite was only made in two varying colors: brown and black. It could only be made in these two colors because of the extreme heat it endured while being cured. Catalin is also a thermoset plastic made of formaldehyde and phenol with no fillers."
From the article Bakelite vs Catalin - The Spruce Crafts
"So while Bakelite was used for items like insulators for electrical systems or handles on Deco-era toasters, for instance, Catalin was used for manufacturing varied jewelry, colorful radios, and other consumer goods widely collected today. Even so, the majority of these objects are described as Bakelite now.
Most of the buttons I use are Bakelite, but some may be Catalin. I will refer to both as Bakelite in my listings.

Love this shop!! I have tons of bracelets from here. All lovely all unique. Great customer service as well!!💕
Totally in love with these earrings that are perfectly constructed. I placed new oils on it and it also makes it functional and pretty!
Let’s start with the packaging, shall we? Wowwww!!! I shouldn’t be surprised, because this is the second time I have purchased from Old Nouveau. Still, I’ve never seen anything so artistically and lovingly wrapped. I can’t even begin to describe it!! And now for the necklace. WHAT FUN!!! Such creative assemblage of vintage rhinestone earrings into dangling pendants on a necklace! Who needs screw-back earrings when you can have gorgeous pendants, instead?! I have always loved blue rhinestone jewelry, and could never make up my mind which vintage piece to buy. With this necklace, I feel like I have them all in one! Thank you so much, Laura!!!
This bracelet is spectacular, as is all your jewelry. I purchased a bracelet years ago from you during Harbor Days in Mattapoisett. I had visited your booth for about four years deciding if I should buy it. You finally said “it’s waiting for you” and I bought it. It is made with antique watch faces and it brings me joy whenever I wear it!
