This is a pressed celluloid pin created sometime in the 1930's. The design is unusual in that it includes a marvelous wooden base. The pin depicts a lovely bunch of dusty light blue Daisy's. This form of blue was popular in the fashions of this period. The pin is also a nice size, measuring 2.50" long.

In the 1930's the Great Depression was upon our nation. There were no jobs, the stock market had crashed, banks had closed and food for some was an issue. Jewelry manufacturers had to come up with designs they could sell at prices affordable to women during this period (FYI: Even in the worst of times women buy jewelry).
Innovation drove the industry and new materials were developed to address this market niche. Celluloid designs became the rage, incorporating intricate floral patterns which were carved or pressed. This pin is one of those popular designs...it is a beautiful piece of jewelry design history.

It would also make an excellent shawl pin.
