I looked for the longest time to find a coop that matched what I wanted in my head. Finally found this one and with the help of friends we built it for my very first flock! We modified slightly for where we were building, but it was super easy to follow along. I’m so so happy with how it turned out and for the size if you can build your own it really cuts down on price over buying some kit from a box store.
Excellent plans! Absolutely love the coop. Made a few modifications for more airflow since I live in central Florida. Added two “window size” eve vents over the nest box in lieu of windows, added a glass window to the door, and put in two large screened openings on the run side. Lots of airflow and natural light. Perfect plans to house 4 chickens! Lots of compliments from friends too!
The plans were very easy to follow. Took a little longer than I had anticipated, but then again I’ve never built anything like this before. I have 5 young chicks, this paired with the run will work perfectly in my small urban Southern California backyard. Modified door to have large screen since it gets warm out here and we rarely ever get weather dipping into the low 30s. Price was pretty much on point with what is estimated in the description. You would never find a coop built this nice for $500-$600 at a feed store. Coops priced in this range purchased from a store or online are going to be extremely small and not as aesthetically pleasing. Went with Behr “blackbird” paint color which is like a really dark navy blue. I’ve had nothing but compliments on how good this coop looks.
We finally finished! As novice builders without a nail gun, this took us a while. There were some areas of the plan that could be clarified in future editions, but we were able to work through it in the end. The seller answered some questions by email and was very prompt. We added a second window and moved the placement of the chicken door. We are very happy with the final product and design!
