Description

Up for sale I am offering a set of 6 demitasse (smaller) size of cups and saucers produced by Hornsea of England and designed by Martin Hunt & David Queensberry in 1977. They are actually a bit larger than your typical demitasse size, but smaller than the average coffee / tea cup size ( which I am also offering on Etsy on a separate listing).
It is part of the Concept range. Finish on the cups is a matte unglazed pottery, and glossy on the interior......the saucers are completely matte and unglazed.
**I am also offering on a separate listing on Etsy the larger, regular sized cups and saucers from the same pattern, and MANY OTHER pieces from this CONCEPT Pattern.
Please check them out.

Measurements: Cups measure: 1 7/8" in height X 3" in diameter. Saucers: 5 1/8" in diameter.

In overall very good vintage condition, free of chips, breaks or repairs WITH THE EXCEPTION of a hairline crack on ONLY ONE SAUCER.

I found a little literature online that I would like to share with you:

The Concept range of tableware released in 1977 and immediately won a Design Council Award. What marks this design out is the combination of glazed and unglazed surfaces on each piece, using a special unglazed stoneware body which Hornsea called Vitramic. This gave an added tactile feel to the already interesting surface design of moulded radiating circles and ovals. On most pieces the inside is glazed, with just the centre circle on the outside glazed, the rest left matt. The design was by Martin Hunt and David Queensberry (who had a design partnership from 1966 to 1999 and worked for a number of ceramic firms). Colin Rawson is listed as having had design input in the range by some researchers, but he was the company founder and by 1977 any input is likely to have been of an executive nature.
