One morning in the jungle, Donkey Kong wakes up to discover that his prized banana horde has been ransacked. With his helpful sidekick Diddy Kong in tow, he sets out on a roaring rampage of revenge. In this scene, he takes out his aggressions by hurling a gigantic steel keg at the world's unluckiest beaver, while Diddy Kong watches along in horror.
The sprites from Donkey Kong Country are different from most other SNES games because they were 3D rendered rather than hand-drawn. As a result, this shadow box looks better far away rather than up close, sort of like a retro Monet painting. By the way, I learned about the 3D rendering from a promotional VHS video that Nintendo sent me 20 years ago! (And I learned about Monet paintings from watching Clueless)
This scene is printed on crystal-clear, optically pure digital acrylic and layered to create a three-dimensional image that brings each scene to life.
