The Rebecca is upcycled* using 4 - 6 dress shirts (instead of flat fold fabric). With upcycling, there is no need to print, cut out and tape together PATTERN PIECES. The starting materials are 3D garments, so instead the "pattern" is instructions and illustrations that define exactly what and where to cut (disassemble) and how to reassemble the pieces. You are purchasing a set of instructions printed on quality 8.5" by 11" paper which can be put in a binder for future ease of reference.

This color-block dress has an intact shirt as the bodice with added bust shaping and optional back gathers. The lower half of the dress is uniquely constructed of sleeves, with the cuffs forming the waistband. The skirt draws in slightly near the hemline creating a minor balloon effect. Optionally, another layer of color-block detail can be added at the hemline. The dress buttons down the front and a double collar adds flair. The dress’ sleeves are left as is and rolled to ¾ length. The overall effect is classic/arty and is sporty or dressy depending on the choice of colors and patterns.

The REBECCA DRESS silhouette works well with all figure types, and is self-adjusting to individual body curves. Transform 4-6 men's or women's dress shirts into a unique, beautiful Rebecca Dress CUSTOMIZED to your figure.

ALL SIZES ARE INCLUDED in that the size/fit of the finished garment is determined by the size of the shirt used for the upper torso, the other parts are self-scaling. ANYONE, any size, who can find a dress shirt to fit the way they like across the shoulders and bust, can successfully fit this pattern.

The pattern is intended to be semi-fitted in the upper bodice. For larger busts, dart and pleat instructions are provided to customize the fit. Avoid any bodice shirt so tight that it strains at the bust, back or upper arms, or limits movement. If the bodice shirt is tight at the hip, this is not a problem; the instructions walk you through the design process.

Really tall or short? This pattern is easy to adjust for height.

The sewing is straightforward piece assembly, mostly using topstitching. All of the tough parts like the collar, collar band, plackets, buttonholes are already sewn on the starting garments, making your job easier! The customization is achieved by picking the right size starting garment and making choices about where to cut by looking at the garment fit on your own body.

Sewers with experience with mixing colors and patterns will fulfill their artistic dreams, but those just learning these skills will find they enjoy the challenge and growth to their creativity. !! Have Fun !!

ADDITIONAL BONUS - Includes a 4-page tip sheet on design elements, color selection, fit, garment care, and technical tips.

I tried the Peggy pattern, but unfortunately my skills as a seamstress seemed to be lacking. Michelle contacted me and asked me if I’d like to trade for another pattern and I am trading for the Ellie T shirt. Looks like I can do it and is super cute. All her patterns are. I like different and her shop is one of a kind. I am also an Etsy seller and with being as busy of a shop as she has, I did not expect a response. I was going pleasantly surprised. I try to do that as well, with my customers, but this is a first for me as a buyer and I am very impressed by her attentiveness. Shows Michelle does this for the love of making things, and has high standards and quality....not just for the money. I will be back.l!

I haven't actually made this blouse yet, but used some of the ideas in combination with the Peggy blouse to create an upcycled blouse from dress shirts.
