An exquisite delicate real flowering wattle stem preserved in copper.

The silver wattle (Acacia dealbata) is an iconic wattle species, known for its lovely silver foliage and sprays of flowers in late winter each year. You can see these wattles lining streams along the Yarra River in Melbourne, Australia.

The bar necklace comes with a matching copper chain, and a choice of length. Standard length, with the chain resting around mid-chest level is 18". The chain will darken to grey over time. The wattle inflorescence is approximately 5cm long.

Comes bubble wrapped and packaged flat for safe and less costly postage.

~~ Electroforming~~
After collecting the wattle I prepared it for preservation using various coats of sealant and paint over the space of a day or two. I then electroformed it, whereby the piece was submerged in solution and a thick layer of copper was plated onto the piece. The wattle plated beautifully taking about 20 hours to complete. Afterwards the piece was oxidised to enhance the character of the pendant. Finally, to preserve the colour it was finished with a museum grade wax coating.

~~ Care instructions ~~
Remove before showering or bathing
Keep boxed or stored in a dry place when not wearing
Do not use jewellery cleaner on the pendant. Simply buff with a cloth or brass brush.

~~ Note ~~
There may be some very small colour alterations over time as the patina matures. This is unavoidable with copper unless toxic sealants are used, which I prefer not to use.

Yes, all uncoated rings may give your finger a green tinge. Many are aware of the health benefits of copper, so do not mind this feature of raw copper.

For coated pieces I choose to use a non-toxic museum grade wax finish. This coat may eventually wear off if this is a well-loved piece, or a ring, as with all known sealants of copper.

If you find yourself getting a green tinge and you would prefer not to you could re-coat the ring yourself using a water-based wood varnish from the hardware store, or a spray on clear matt or gloss varnish from the craft section.

Please check individual listings for details on the finish (if any) used.
Part science, part skill, part finesse... When purchasing from an electroforming artist you are getting all three. When organic items are used there is an added level of difficulty as natural items are textured and difficult to plate evenly. Invested in your lovely, evenly plated piece is hundreds of hours of learning, failures, and pieces that did not come up to scratch.

My plating is as thick as possible for strength, quality and endurance, which takes 24 hours on average per piece. But there is an art to getting this right, without losing the beautiful quality of the piece, so they are all nursed through the process.

Each piece is unique, designed by me and made with Australian plants. They truly are little pieces of Australia.
Unless specified, standard shipping to Australia and international is by "large letter" and is not tracked. This keeps postage costs down. If you would like tracking please convo me prior to making an order.
