Antique Victorian large 10k gold framed Dionysus/Ariadne carved shell cameo pendant brooch pin

Description

Today I am selling a beautiful Victorian shell cameo brooch depicting either Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and fertility (Bacchus in Roman mythology), or his wife Ariadne. The 3/4 profile of a classical figure in a flowing robe has one hand holding up a bunch of grapes and the thyrsus (a pinecone-topped staff used in Dionysis fertility rites) resting against the opposite shoulder. A grape vine grows in the background and there are several grape leaves in the hair. Although the carving is not very 3 dimensional, it is detailed and has depth to the scene. The curved, oval shell is set in a custom 10k gold frame with tiny prongs around the edge holding it in place. A simple scalloped border circles the frame. It is not hallmarked but acid tests positive for 10 karat gold. The pin is a little loose but stays securely in the C clasp. A loop was added at a later date to the top; a large round jump ring is attached and ready for a chain.

CONDITION: Very good for its age. Four prongs are missing from the left side (behind the grape vine) which makes the cameo wiggle slightly but it is not in danger of falling out. The cameo has minor general wear and is slightly dirty. One hairline crack on the lower right side. The 10k gold frame has minor tarnish on the front and a couple of small solder spots on the back. As stated in the description above, the loop at the top is not original.

CIRCA: Late Victorian era

MEASUREMENTS: 2 1/8 inches tall and 1 3/4 inches at its widest (not including extended pin stem), the cameo itself measures 1 13/16 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches wide

I will be listing more unique vintage and antique jewelry, so check back often!

Shipping policies

DOMESTIC SHIPMENTS:

All purchases shipped within the US are mailed via first class, which takes 2 to 5 business days. Delivery confirmation is included in the shipping price. I can always upgrade to priority or express mail, but please convo me BEFORE buying the item so that I can make the necessary adjustments.

Higher priced items (usually $100 or more) have insurance on top of delivery confirmation included in the shipping price. Packages are still mailed through first class unless other services have been chosen and paid for by the buyer.

I ship within three business (Monday through Friday) days of receiving payment. I usually make 3 to 4 trips to the post office a week. If you need your purchase quickly, please convo me and I will try to get it out as soon as possible.

Although I'm a big fan of convo'ing, I typically don't contact customers as to when I mail off their items, but I will happily answer your query if you convo me concerning the shipment date.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPMENTS:

I ship worldwide at a flat rate for items under $50. If you live outside of the US and are interested in a higher priced item, please convo me and I will give you a shipping quote for first class international and priority mail international.

SHIPMENT DELAYS, FEEDBACK, ETC:

THIS IS IMPORTANT! Please don't leave feedback before contacting me. I want my customers to be happy, but I can't do anything if you don't let me know what the problem is.

The optimal time it takes from when you pay for your items to when it reaches your door is one week (5 business days), but I am not responsible for the package after it leaves my hands at the post office. It's possible for a purchase made Monday to be received by Thursday, but a more logical estimation is the following Monday. Leaving feedback about your items being 'late' before a week has passed is unreasonable (unless you specifically convo'd me about mailing it quickly).

If you don't receive your purchase within 2 weeks (10 business days) PLEASE convo me. At that point it is an issue with the post office, which can hopefully be cleared up with your delivery confirmation number.
