This vintage mid-century genuine turquoise and sterling silver necklace was handcrafted by Native Americans in the American Southwest in the early 1960s. My great aunt bought it on one of her grand expeditions - every year she and a some friends took off for a month to a different part of the world, and she always brought me back the most amazing treasures. She told me that part of the tour that day was watching the men craft pieces like this, and she chose this one for me at the end of the tour, and then kept it for me until my high school graduation.

The turquoise stones in the necklace are nicely matched, but I love them for the natural imperfections they display, and the rich brown matrix. The lower 4 stones are a deep, almost malachite-colored green, while the 2 pear-shaped ones at the top have a tinge of blue - so I'd call them aqua-colored.

The workmanship in this piece is stunning - the bezels are nicely detailed, everything is soldered, and the herringbone chain reflects the detail on the bezels.

The back of each setting clearly shows the .925 marking, and closure is obtained with an S-hook. The necklace measures 18 inches in diameter, with the pendant falling to the 22 inch mark.

This is a true work of art - and if you love turquoise, you won't be disappointed.

NOTE: This piece will be shipped USPS, Signature Required. No exceptions. Please be sure the shipping address you indicate will be available Monday - Saturdays to sign for the package.
