HOW TO SUBMIT AN ULTRASOUND FOR PRINTING
------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------
In order for your custom print to be made, your ultrasound is required. So, you will need to send us a high-resolution scan or photograph of the image you would like printed. Because we cannot make a great print from a poor quality file, please follow these guidelines:

IF YOUR DOCTOR GAVE YOU A CD OF YOUR ULTRASOUND PICTURES
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Job done! Attach the full size file to your order convo in Etsy, or email it to babyblueprintstudio [!at] gmail.com with your name and order number.

IF PHOTOGRAPHING WITH A SMART PHONE
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. If possible, set your camera to the highest quality picture setting
2. TURN OFF FLASH
3. Avoid reflected light (glare) on the surface of the ultrasound; consider placing on a wall near a large window so it is indirectly lit (again, no reflections or glare); if the ultrasound is on a wall perpendicular to a window, you will also avoid casting your own shadow in the image area
4. Fill the frame of the camera with the ultrasound; avoid cropping out anything important—we cannot print what isn’t there
5. After taking the picture, evaluate the image quality before emailing the file—ZOOM IN AND CHECK THE FOCUS—we cannot make a sharp print from a blurry picture
6. While you’re evaluating the focus, check to make sure there is no glare from the light source and that nothing important is cropped out.
7. Attach the largest jpeg file possible to your order convo in Etsy, or email it to babyblueprintstudio [!at] gmail.com with your name and order number.

IF PHOTOGRAPHING WITH A DIGITAL CAMERA
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Set your camera to the highest quality jpeg setting
7. If you are using image editing software on a computer, resize your file to 5 inches, 7 inches, or 10 inches on the longest edge (depending on the size print you order) at 300 ppi. Save as a high-resolution jpeg.
8. Attach the largest jpeg file possible to your order convo in Etsy, or email it to babyblueprintstudio [!at] gmail.com with your name and order number.

IF SCANNING
----------------------------
1. Make sure the scanner and ultrasound are dust/debris free
2. If possible, scan your ultrasound at 600 resolution (generally accessible through “advanced” mode)
3. Select the entire ultrasound to scan.
4. Save the file a high-resolution jpeg.
5. Check the file to make sure everything looks good and that nothing important was cut off during the scanning process
6. Attach the largest jpeg file possible to your order convo in Etsy, or email it to babyblueprintstudio [!at] gmail.com with your name and order number.

If you would like extra help with this process, Google “how to photograph artwork with a smartphone” or “how to photograph artwork with a digital camera” or “how to scan a picture with (enter your scanner model here).” Or, you may contact us directly. However, please consider that we do not know how every type of smartphone/digital camera/scanner works.

THE PROCESS
-----------------------
The Cyanotype (or blueprint) is a photographic process that was developed in 1842 by Sir John Herschel. Unless you have taken a History of Photography class, you probably haven’t heard his name. But, you have most likely used terms he notably coined, including photography, positive and negative, and snapshot. Cyanotypes became the medium of choice for the first female photographer, Anna Atkins (look her up, you’ll be happy you did), and it was later used commercially to produce schematic drawings for engineers and builders. With that in mind, we have adopted the cyanotype process to create unique blueprints of your growing child/children. Do not store those cute ultrasounds away! Instead, render them permanent and have them displayed in beautiful Prussian blue.

SHARING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

We like to feature works-in-progress on social media (never names/personal information--just images of the prints). If you would prefer that we do not share your ultrasound as it is being created, please send us a convo at the time of your order.

FAQs

Ultrasounds do two things very well—they provide the first glimpse of your new child/children, and they fade (quite badly). Unless they are stored away in a dark place, they may disappear all but completely. However, doing this stands at odds with the excitement of the occasion. You want them to be on display! This is where we come in. Our products allow you to exhibit the new addition/s to your family without fear of the fade. These one-of-a-kind works of art celebrate your baby/babies while enhancing the walls of your home or nursery.
No! We want your ultrasounds to remain safe with you. All we need is for you to email us a digital copy. You can do this with your phone, digital camera, or scanner. When you place your order, you will be sent more specific instructions.
No, we do not provide digital files for download. We take pride in the custom images that we create and want the physical print to reflect our high-quality standard. So you send us a digital copy of your ultrasound, and we'll do the rest.
There are a few ways to gift one of our prints. The first method is to simply purchase the product yourself and provide us with your friend's ultrasound (this may require sneakiness on your part if it is a surprise). You may then ask that we mail the print to you (if you prefer to deliver it yourself) or directly to your friend (if they live far away). We do not provide gift wrapping services, but we can and will write a custom message at your request. The second method is to purchase the product yourself, tell your friend, then have them contact us for instructions on what to do next. The third method is to purchase a gift certificate from our shop.
This is custom work, so it is not an overnight job. Placing your order is the first step, then we need a digital copy of your ultrasound. As soon as we receive this file, it can take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to make and ship the print. Delivery will vary depending on the shipping option you select. If you need the print by a specific date (i.e. for a baby shower), please let us know. We will do our best to make sure it arrives on time. We typically do most of our printing on Thursday evenings and ship on Fridays or Saturdays. So if you want your print shipped by the weekend (to arrive sometime the next week), get those digital ultrasound files to us by Tuesday.
