Description

Set of 3 vintage art glass vases and a bowl by Ladislav Palecek. They were made from green and amber glass and cased in clear glass. The colourless glass is filled with lots of small, tiny bubbles giving it a white, cloudy appearance.

The items are from the Skrdlovice factory in the former Czechoslovakia. Pattern no 7609

They were made in 1976.

An almost identical vase is referenced in Bevan Jones, Parik & Hill's book "Beranek & Skrdlovice" where it is given the award of "Hallmark Design" and states:

"This half-cased technique develops the style of decoration popularised postwar by Scandinavian designers like Ernest Gordon in some of his vase designs at Afors, made from 1955-61....It was another very successful design by Palecek in terms of popular sales. Palecek came up with some interesting designs at this time, as well as directing the glassmaking at the factory under Jan Beranek. His vases would become known for their unusual use of decoration and addition of minerals."

************************************************************************

The largest vase is:

29cm (11.5 inches) high;
10cm (4 inches) wide;
6.5cm (2.5 inches) deep;
and weighs 1.4kg (3 pounds).

The smaller vase is:

23cm (9 inches) high;
9cm (3.5 inches) wide;
6cm (2.5 inches) deep;
and weighs 1.2kg (2.5 pounds).

The bowl is:

6.5cm (2.5 inches) high;
16.5cm (6.5 inches) wide;
8.5cm (3.5 inches) deep;
and weighs 700g (1.5 pounds).

They are all in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or scratches. There is a small bruise on the foot of the largest vase (see picture 4) and near the rim but both are barely visible and don't distract from the splendour of the piece.
