Description

The Relaxed Tote is a large bag with plenty of room within. With two ways to carry this bag (over the shoulder or cross body) The Relaxed Tote is versatile in both your needs and the “look” you are after. With a large main area, 2 zippered pockets (one external and one in the lining), and a divided slip pocket with the perfect place to store a pen and your phone – this bag has a place to store everything!

The finished size of The Relaxed Tote measures approximately 16” widest point (13 ½” at opening) x 16" tall (40.5cm widest point {34cm at opening} x 40.5cm tall). This bag has been designed to be made using leather/faux leather/vinyl accents, however other fabric types (eg. Quilting Cotton, or another woven fabric) can be used instead.

Skill level: Confident Beginner
Please read all directions before beginning.
The seam allowance is 3/8” (1cm) unless otherwise stated, and has been included in the pattern pieces.
Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of all stitching unless otherwise stated.
Pattern pieces are included on the pages after the instructions. The remaining pieces should be cut to the measurements provided in the cutting guide (page 4).

Important things to note when working with leather.
Never use pins, be sure to use clips instead.
Be sure to use a leather needle.
Be sure to use a 40 to 60 weight bonded nylon thread or a 100% polyester thread.
Be sure to use a walking foot, roller foot or teflon foot on your sewing machine.
Lengthen your stitch when topstitching, it ensures a neater more professional look.
Test stitch on scrap piece of leather first that is the same thickness as what you will be sewing, (i.e. interfaced, etc.) and use that to work out the tension needed for the project. Many domestic machines will not cope with the thickness of some leathers, testing on a scrap piece of leather will come in handy to find this out too.

Extra important things to note when working with faux leather, the above leather tips should be adhered to, plus...
Be sure to use low heat and pressing cloth if fusing to faux leather.

Great pattern! Instructions are clear and complete, and the bag turns out great. It's a very large bag! I love the pleated pocket on the inside.
